A dear friend of mine introduced this genius musician to me when I was a teenager. That was a real discovery for me. Thanks to it, I learned a lot about indie scene. "The Model" was the first song I heard from them. I loved the way he did the sound. My friend lived in another city and also had a band. Unfortunately, he died after a heart transplantation, and I hadn't managed to visit any of his concerts. So Steve dies from heart attack, and I haven't manage to visit any of his concerts either. R.I.P guys ❤

RIP Steve Albini

I was at that show. It was hot as balls in Seattle that weekend and there was no ventilation in that building. At the end of the video, you'll see a guy holding slips of paper. At the beginning of the show Steve dragged a chair on stage and announced that that guy had written down the names of all their songs. Every time someone yelled out the name of a song he'd tear it up and they wouldn't play it. Someone yelled out part of a title and Steve said "He said half the title so we're only going to play half the song." Before the show, some poet dude read one of his poems. Someone yelled out "Play some music!" He responded, "This IS music, asshole!" It got better. Someone was quick enough to sample the response and kept playing "This IS music, asshole!" over the PA. At the end of the show, Steve smashed his guitar then dumped an epic amount of firecrackers on stage. I have never before or since seen that many firecrackers go off, especially not in an enclosed space. I was lucky enough to grab Steve's guitar strap from the wreckage. I still have it.

This is priceless, I can look and listen beyond the technology of the time to imagine being there. Thanks for uploading!

I was at this show. I was trying to remember because Steve Albini died today. RIP Jesse Bernstein opened for them.

I used to work "security" for gigs at G-Mex through a friend called Kevin at work. I did this gig and was stood for the most part in behind the front barriers in front of the bass bins - never forget how good those two gigs were (they did two nights). I did Happy Mondays, Soul II Soul and a number of others around that time but then all the bands switched to the Nynex (Manchester Arena) when it opened around 94 or 95 and I'd moved on but those James gigs were EPIC !!

Was my favorite band back when I was young, nothing sounds as ANTI SOCIAL as big black. Next best thang is acid bath.

A friend told me that the video I took back in November 1982 at the Crystal Ballroom was posted on You Tube. I was located in the Lighting Booth above the top right side of the stage at the Ballroom. I am very happy that others have enjoyed it as well. I was fortunate to record over a hundred alternate bands in Melbourne from 1979 - 1984 at many venues. I created copies of this video, where it ended up at alternate record shops. Thanks for buying and uploading. Cheers.

The audio quality on this is better than most official live recordings. J.Mart did an incredible job on the mastering. I’ve been lucky enough to see this band live many times and this captures the power and intimacy perfectly. I can’t believe I’m only seeing this video in 2023
